"Red is the great clarifier - bright, cleansing, revealing. It makes all colors beautiful. I can't imagine being bored with it - it would be like becoming tired of the person you love. I wanted this apartment to be a garden - but it had to be a garden in hell." - Diana Vreeland

Ever since my grandmother Ursula bought me a pair of crimson silk high heeled Valentinos to wear to my senior prom, I’ve loved the bold and sensual qualities of the color. I felt young and wild that night.

RED, known as an “activator or stimulator” in feng shui practice has a wonderful spirited personality that affects our subconscious and emotional responses. Color is a language of the soul and it influences our experience of the world. The primal and grounding Root Chakra in our bodies is ruled by red energy. It is the color of love, desire, and passion. I mean, a simple example of this is the power of a sexy red lip to turn us on. We perceive self-confidence, authenticity and sexuality.

Whether we are aware or not, we are always drawn to red first, it can literally redirect our attention and move energy around a space. I love red in the kitchen because pulses with vitality and builds appetite. Intentionally choosing a red teapot as your everyday centerpiece can attract these vibes. But even a detail as temporary as a bouquet of camilias from the farmers market will fill the room with dynamism and benefit your life.
