LOTUSLAND

Ganna Walska (1887 - 1984) was a Polish opera singer and the eccentric garden enthusiast who created the one and only and exotic, Lotusland, in Montecito, California. For over 40 years, Ganna devoted herself to seeking the rarest specimens in the world of cacti, succulents, cycads, ferns and palms for her many botanical scenes at Lotusland. The textures and colors of each garden are so striking and uniquely curated that the whole time I was on the guided tour I wanted to stop, sit down on the grass and sketch everything I could see. So many ideas were rushing around in my mind. I took a bunch of photos and will add my sketches later on. Some of the highlights from my visit are below.
